We finally got the rain… and as they say, “When it rains, it POURS”, and that’s exactly what happened. Areena Riverside Resort & Private Game Reserve and much of the greater East London area received an amazing amount of rain over an 8 day period after experiencing a critical 7 year drought in the region.

Lilyfontein School, our local Private school, brought their 27 Grade.5 pupils out to Areena Riverside Resort for an adventure day of hiking! The group of 10 year olds were well mannered and keen for the adventure outing!

A group of campers who were cooking up some breakfast on their skottle along the banks of the Kwelera River were surprised when they saw a large “black” figure thrashing around in the middle of the river. At a second glance it was clear to see that the “black” figure was a seal and it was thrashing about with a fish that it had caught. Once the Seal had stunned its meal, he happily ate his meal while floating on his back, while onlookers took photos and video clips and the resident Fish Eagle flying over head hoping for a morsel too!

Areena Riverside Resort boasts a reputable and popular Areena Quays family Restaurant and Pub, nestled on the banks of the Kwelera tidal River under a magnificent giant wild fig tree. Areena Quays has been functioning as a Restaurant and weddings and conference events venue for the past 5years and has specially built a strong reputation for their delightful Sunday Lunch Buffet, which is a must!.

July is the month the winter festivities kick off with our East Coast, Jikeleza Back to Nature Festival hosted at Inkwenkwezi Private Game Reserve. The festival promotes handcrafted artefacts, a host of entertainment. Areena Riverside Resort will be displaying in the Jikeleza Members Tent, so see you there.

Bring the family along and enjoy a day of Elephant Rides, Game Drives and Eco-awareness walks…. Then pop on over to AREENA RIVERSIDE RESORT & PRIVATE GAME RESERVE, just 10 min away from the festival, and book a quad bike game safari or go canoeing down our pristine river valley, to the beach.

Next month August, Areena is planning a spit braai for the resort members and friends to join in with some light entertainment around the Areena Quays Restaurant. Ask the office for more details closer to the time.
